Presentation Description:

Informed by Sanford's "Challenge and Support" student development theory, this session will look at the international student support services provided by International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) offices and when it applies to F-1 international students and how their needs are met. Presenters will discuss how ISSS offices address the students' needs, drawing on experiences s to highlight effective support strategies to not only enhance the student experience but to ensure there is a balance.

This will be a 50 minute session.

Learning Objectives:

To better understand Sanford’s Theory of “Challenge and Support” and how it applies to their F-1 international students.
Analyze the different types of support services by ISSS offices and identifying the different levels of support can either facilitate or hinder international students’ development.
Finding a balance between providing too much support versus too much challenges to ensure the students’ optimal success.
