Presentation Description:

As costs rise for education abroad, students’ need for additional funding and advising has increased. This session will share strategies to provide dedicated outreach and holistic support to underrepresented students - including students with high financial need, students with disabilities, and others. Presenters will provide an overview of large external scholarships and other funding resources for education abroad and share best practices for advocacy, programming and policy decisions on their home campuses to create more affordable opportunities for students.

Learning Objectives:

Understanding Under-representation on Campus: Participants will engage in discussion about what under-representation means on their campuses and its impact on students with high financial need.
Participants will learn about national awards (and disability benefits for students with disabilities) that can alleviate financial barriers to students and how to support students in applications for these opportunities.
Participants will gain communication and outreach strategies for providing information about study abroad funding to underrepresented students. Presenters will provide examples of campaigns and collaborations with campus and external stakeholders.
