DACA and Beyond

Presentation Description: Immigration Attorneys from the US and Canda will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), DACA Advance Parole, and the various pathways to permanent residency available to DACA recipients in the US and Canada. The presentation will include a review of Family and Employment based US residency options for DACA recipients and compare them to Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) and other relevant pathways available in Canada.  

Learning Objectives:

  • Current State of DACA and AP: Review of recent developments affecting DACA and DACA Advance Parole, detailing eligibility, application processes, and the benefits and risks associated with traveling abroad.
  • Review of common challenges that DACA recipients face in applying for family/employment based green cards in the US and how universities can help DACA recipients pursue status in the US.
  • Explore alternative immigration options in Canada for DACA recipients and provide insights into the potential benefits and challenges of immigrating to Canada.
