Reimagining Education Abroad Through an Identity and Belonging Lens

Presentation Description:

Could it be that our programming is limiting a student's ability to define their optimal learning zone?  How might that impact their capacity to establish a growth mindset at the outset of their abroad experience? 
What if we were to bring individual identity to the surface first before we asked our students to consider exploring their understanding of collective identity?

Through interactive activities and discussion, we’ll investigate these questions together.

Learning Objectives:

  • Think critically about the relationship between learning zones and student engagement abroad.
  • Identify the importance that identity and culture have on creating a sense of belonging and mattering.
  • Apply concepts from this session to develop equitable and inclusive strategies that strengthen education abroad programming.
