Presentation Description: Advise or refer? ISSS professionals are often asked to advise on matters that do not fall squarely within our purview. We will explore balancing service expectations with legal liability and expertise and referring to outside counsel. Interactive case studies will amplify the discussion.

Understand the boundaries and implications of service, liability and expertise.
Consider institutional and office policy, practice and capacity relating to the level of service expected by constituents.
Practice determining and applying boundaries to case studies and provide guidance for evaluating predictability, resource allocation, and ethical conflicts
